More Racist Bullshit About Islam

I hope this post will settle the shrill anti-Muslim comments that sometimes get posted on this blog. The argument that Islam is evil because it commands the believer to kill all unbelievers is bunk. It’s not “not nuanced enough to be true” or “overly simplistic,” but just plain wrong.

If you don’t believe me, pick up a copy of the Bible, and read chapters 7-9 of Joshua. Then turn to Psalms 137:9, which Biblically motivated pro-lifers might find risible. Then go to Matthew 10, especially 10:34, which will certainly explain the Crusades.

After you’re done, practice explaining why that doesn’t make Christianity and Judaism evil religions whose members must be persecuted and killed, until you can do it with a straight face.

  1. Foo Bar says:

How does writing about Christianity/Judiams/Pastafaranism tell us anything about Islam? Plus, we all know that Christians are bound by everything in the Old Testament. That’s why you never seem them eating pork or shrimp. And when did Islam become a race?

  2. I always send them to Numbers 31, myself.

  3. Stentor says:

I actually think Matthew 10 is fairly easily explained. Jesus is predicting that Christians will be the *victims* of violence, rather than urging them to be *perpetrators* of violence. (And he was right for the first 300 or so years of the religion.)

(This is not to say that I think Islam is evil or that Christianity hasn’t been equally bloody in practice.)

  4. Alon Levy says:

Foo Bar, a good rule of thumb is that if your great insight about Islam also predicts that Christianity and Judaism are religions of uncultured barbarians, it’s not as solid as you think it is.

SLC, Galganov is an idiot. I’m going to go out on a limb and assume he’s never criticized The Guiding Light for portraying Christianity as a normal, peaceful religion. Similarly, I presume he’s never criticized alliances that sprang because of an external enemy when the participants weren’t both Muslim. Fatah and Hamas have a common enemy in Israel. Israel and Hussein’s Jordan had a common enemy in Fatah. Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin had a common enemy in Hitler. Fascists and liberal democrats had a common enemy in communism in the Cold War.

  5. SLC says:

    Re Levy

As usual, Mr. Levy considers’ anyone with an unLevy thought in his/her head to be mentally deficient. Here’s another link to an opinion piece from an individual who I am sure sits no higher in Mr. Levys’ esteem then Mr. Galganov.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/02/01/AR2007020101497_pf.html

  6. Alon Levy says:

It’s not a question of considering anyone who disagrees with me mentally deficient. There are intelligent arguments against Islam, which acknowledge that inventing millennia-old histories out of whole cloth based on current political needs isn’t a good basis for policy. Hell, you make some of them.

Actually, Krauthammer doesn’t come off as that stupid in the article. He makes some factual mistakes about Sunnis and Shi’as for sure, but at least his central argument is intelligent, even if wrong. Galganov, in contrast, just comes off as an idiot.

  7. SLC says:

    Re Galganov

If Mr. Levy doesn’t like Galganov, here’s somebody he will like even less.

In the world of international diplomacy few issues receive more wall-to-wall support than the notion that it is essential to establish a Palestinian state. Leaders worldwide are so busy speaking of how essential it is for a State of Palestine to be founded that none of them seems to have noticed that it already exists.

This state was officially founded in the summer of 2005, when Israel removed its military forces and civilian population from the Gaza Strip and so established the first wholly independent Palestinian state in history. Israel’s destruction of four Israeli communities in Northern Samaria and curtailment of its military operations in the area set the conditions for statehood in that area as well.

And so it is that as statesmen and activists worldwide loudly proclaim their commitment to establishing the sovereign State of Palestine, they miss the fact that Palestine exists. And it is a nightmare.

In the State of Palestine 88 percent of the public feels insecure. Perhaps the other 12 percent are members of the multitude of regular and irregular militias. For in the State of Palestine the ratio of police/militiamen/men-under-arms to civilians is higher than in any other country on earth.

In the State of Palestine, two-year-olds are killed and no one cares. Children are woken up in the middle of the night and murdered in front of their parents. Worshipers in mosques are gunned down by terrorists who attend competing mosques. And no one cares. No international human rights groups publish reports calling for an end to the slaughter. No UN body condemns anyone or sends a fact-finding mission to investigate the murders.

In the State of Palestine, women are stripped naked and forced to march in the streets to humiliate their husbands. Ambulances are stopped on the way to hospitals and wounded are shot in cold blood. Terrorists enter operating rooms in hospitals and unplug patients from life-support machines.

In the State of Palestine, people are kidnapped from their homes in broad daylight and in front of the television cameras. This is the case because the kidnappers themselves are cameramen. Indeed, their commanders often run television stations. And because terror commanders run television stations in the State of Palestine, it should not be surprising that they bomb the competition’s television stations.

SO IT WAS that last week, terrorists from this group or that group bombed Al Arabiya television station in Gaza. And so it is that Hamas attacks Fatah radio announcers and closes down their radio station claiming that they use their microphones to incite murder. Because indeed, they are inciting murder. What would one expect for terrorists to do when placed in charge of a radio station?

And so it is that in the State of Palestine, journalists – whether members of terror groups or not – are part of the 88 percent of their public who are afraid. Sunday they protested outside the offices of one terror faction or another that controls the Palestinian Authority.

Speaking to The Jerusalem Post, reporter Ala Masharawi explained, “No one goes outside, no one moves without thinking twice. Gaza’s streets have become terrible streets, especially at night. Gaza is a ghost town.”

As the Post’s Khaled Abu Toameh reported last week, in the State of Palestine, Christians are persecuted, robbed and beaten in what can only be viewed as a systematic campaign to end the Christian presence in places like Bethlehem. As Samir Qumsiyeh, owner of the Beit Sahur-based private Al-Mahd (Nativity) TV station lamented, “I believe that 15 years from now there will be no Christians left in Bethlehem. Then you will need a torch to find a Christian here.”

MANY GOVERNMENT ministers and commentators seek strategic meaning in the strife in the State of Palestine. Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, for instance, goes on and on about the need to strengthen the “moderates” – that is, the Fatah terror group – over the “extremists” – that is, the Hamas terror group.

Helping her to propound this nonsense is PA Chairman and Fatah chief Mahmoud Abbas. Abbas and his men tell Westerners how pro-Western they are at the same time as they name streets and schools financed by US aid after Saddam Hussein and build sports facilities on the American taxpayers’ tab in memory of terrorists who killed American soldiers in Iraq.

For the umpteenth time, on Sunday Fatah spokesmen in PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’s office blamed Iran and Syria for the escalating violence in Gaza and Judea and Samaria that has killed 29 people, including two children, in four days. “Iran and Syria are encouraging Hamas to continue fighting against Fatah,” they alleged.

And yet, just last Thursday the Shin Bet arrested Omar Damra, a Fatah terrorist in Nablus. Damra is accused of manufacturing suicide bomb belts and attempting to smuggle them into Israel. He also stands accused of plotting to place explosive devices along roads in Judea and Samaria with the intention of blowing up IDF patrols.

Damra and his partner and fellow Fatah terrorist Mahmad Ramaha, who was arrested a month ago, were working under the instruction of Hizbullah – that is, under the direction of Iran. According to the Shin Bet, Hizbullah – that is, Iran – has taken over Fatah operations in Nablus. Since Israel’s withdrawal from northern Samaria in August 2005, the Shin Bet has noted that, like Gaza, the Nablus area has become a mini-Afghanistan.

So not only are Hamas terrorists operating under Iranian and Syrian direction today, Fatah terrorists are as well. Yet this doesn’t stop the US and Israel from pouring guns and money into the hands of Fatah terror chiefs. They fail to recognize that what you see is what you get.

These guns are not used to encourage moderation. These guns are used against Israelis and Palestinians alike in a turf battle between terror groups over money, guns and power that will never end. And it will never end because fighting and killing for money, guns and power is what terrorists do.

FOR THE past 13 years, since the Palestinian Authority was established in 1994, the contours of the State of Palestine have taken form in front of our eyes. Starting with Yasser Arafat’s abrogation of the rule of law and murderous campaign against land dealers and journalists, with each passing year and with each move to further empower the PA, the situation has only grown worse. And yet, international pressure on Israel from Arabs, Europeans and the US to surrender more territory, curtail its authority, abrogate its claims to the areas set for Palestine, and finance the Fatah terror group have only grown in intensity.

And with each passing year, as the reality of Palestine has become clearer, the Israeli leadership’s will to resist this pressure is increasingly eroded.

So it is that last week Defense Minister Amir Peretz announced that he supports negotiating with Hamas. Peretz laid out his “vision” for the reinstatement of the so-called peace process with the Palestinians, and stated that, to “empower” the Palestinians, he supports extending the ban on IDF operations from Gaza to Judea and Samaria. It should go without saying that such IDF operations are aimed at preventing massacres of Israeli civilians like the one that happened in Eilat Monday morning.

LIVNI, FOR her part, has become the international champion of Fatah. Gushing to an audience of international peace processors in Davos, Switzerland, last week, Livni said, “In order to achieve peace and in order to promote a process, we must stick to this vision of a two-state solution and examine what the best steps to take are.”

Of course, neither Livni nor Peretz, who insist that Israel’s most urgent priority is to establish Palestine, is willing to recognize that Palestine exists already. They refuse to acknowledge what we already know: Palestine is a terror state and an economic basket case fully funded by the international community. Indeed, over the past year since Hamas won the Palestinian elections, international assistance to the Palestinians has increased dramatically.

As Ibrahim Gambari, the UN under-secretary-general for political affairs, noted last Thursday, official Western aid to the Palestinians, not including Arab and Iranian support for Hamas and Fatah, increased by 10 percent in 2006 over 2005, and stood at $1.2 billion.

The Palestinians, who receive more aid per capita than any people on earth, are needy not because they lack funds. They are poor because they prefer poverty, violence and war to prosperity, peace and moderation. So it is that 57 percent of Palestinians support terror attacks against Israel.

The multitude of protesters worldwide who demand an end to the so-called “occupation” and the establishment of Palestine should be made aware of the fact that Palestine already exists. The hordes of political leaders mindlessly squawking about “visions” and “two-state solutions” should know: This is Palestine. Enter at your own risk.

  8. Alon Levy says:

To be perfectly honest, there’s nothing in this article that wouldn’t apply to Israel 60 years ago. It was established on a smaller territory than the 1949 armistice line, but it still fought to expand. It had two competing political camps, of which one, Haganah, clearly behaved better than the other, Irgun/Lehi; and even so, Haganah had a few shenanigans to its reputation, like its foreknowledge of the King David bombing.

The only part that isn’t true about Israel, “They prefer poverty…”, is also not true about Palestine. A lot of people, who are unfortunately overrepresented in the media, are sure that behaving in US-approved ways equals prosperity. Crap. Most Palestinians believe in continuing suicide bombings because most of their country’s territory is under military occupation, and say they want to stop at independence.

  9. SLC says:

    Re Levy

Once again, Mr. Levy leaves out important information in his response to Caroline Glicks’ article. He neglected to inform the reader that the nascent State of Israel was attacked by the Arab armies of Egypt, TransJordon, Syria, and Iraq immediately after declaring independence. The extra territory occupied was taken after the attacks of the Arab armies were defeated and they were pushed back. That’s the price of aggression, winners keepers, losers weepers.

  10. Pseudonym says:

For some reason, Christians can sing “Onward Christian Soldiers” with a straight face, knowing full well (if they reflect on it at all) that it’s not a song about violence at all, and yet not make the same concessions in Islam.
Most (all?) major religions have a rich metaphorical language that they use to describe their ideas. I guess you’d expect that a Christian fundamentalist, who can’t even recognise the metaphorical language in their own religion, to miss it completely in another one.

  11. Ran Halprin says:

A religion is not judged by its writings, but by its actions. There are tons of stupid things in Jewish and Christian religious writings, as I am sure there are in other religions which I’m less aware of. But fact of the matter is – Many modern Muslim groups follow murders called for by the scribes. Many modern Muslim countries follow them as well. 57% of Palestinian Muslims say murder of non-Muslim civilians is a legitimate political action – and yet, if Israel were to systematically kill them (as the Muslim leaders in Sudan do in Darfur and the south), would they not cry to the world for help? And is this not hypocritical?

  12. Ran Halprin says:

Small note – if you go over all conflicts in the last few decades for areas in which many people are murdered, you will see that in almost all cases, Muslims either perpetrate these murders (e.g. Sudan, Lebanon, Israel), or tried to rebel against countries in which they lived, but were subdued with full force by the countries (e.g. Xinjiang, Bosnia, Chechniya). Is this a coincidence?

  13. Alon Levy says:

A religion is not judged by its writings, but by its actions.

Then stop talking about what the Qur’an says. It’s inconsistent, and makes it look as if fundamentalism is inherent to Islam rather than just a political phase.

57% of Palestinian Muslims say murder of non-Muslim civilians is a legitimate political action

…in order to achieve Palestinian independence. Nations under occupation tend to be like that.

No, it’s just selective. Since the end of WW2, the biggest atrocity in the world in terms of the number of people killed was the Great Leap Forward. In terms of the number of people killed as a percentage of the number of people living in the country, it was the Khmer Rouge’s Year Zero.

Including only interethnic conflicts, you also get,
    – Ho Chi Minh’s slaughter of hundreds of thousands of Cambodians,
    – China’s repression of Tibet,
    – The Rwandan genocide,
    – The Sri Lankan civil war,
    – Russia’s ethnic cleansing of what was then eastern Germany and is now western Poland, and
    – Apartheid.
All of these were entirely Muslim-free. In addition, Suharto’s murder of Chinese-Indonesians was motivated by ethnicity rather than religion, so Islam didn’t play a role; and the Bosnian conflict was a three-way genocide in which only one participant was Muslim and the other two weren’t especially friendly with each other.

  14. Ran Halprin says:

“Nations under occupation tend to be like that.”

What nation are you talking about? There has never been a Palestinian nation. The Arab Muslims of western Palestine, formerly residents of the Othmanian Empire, rejected the UN’s decision on it’s creation, and then lost their land in the war they started. They never stopped attacking Israel ever since, and they remained refugees because of that (combined with the pressure from the neighboring Muslim countries who didn’t assimilate them for political reasons).

I’m not saying there SHOULDN’T be such a nation, the right to self determination exists – but it’s important to remember that they don’t have a country because THEY didn’t agree to having one to begin with, not because they were robbed by another country. It’s not the same as Taiwan, Okinawa, Northern Ireland, Gibraltar, Chechnya etc. where an existing nation or part of it was occupied.

This btw raises a good issue – why do you never call for Britain to return Northern Ireland and Gibraltar? The IRA are far less murderous then Hamas, why do they deserve worse public pressure? Likewise, the Chechen rebels perform very few attacks. And yet you seem to be very much in favor of Hamas over the causes of other groups. Why is that?

Also, in Sudan Christians are massacred weekly by the Muslim leadership as part of their ethnic cleansing efforts, and yet I never see anyone demanding that the UN declare any sanctions on Sudan. Even in the same week that Israel killed 13 civilians accidentally (and apologized), causing the UN to hold an emergency meeting on the subject – the Sudanese killed 57 civilians intentionally, but the subject was never discussed by the UN, nor given much treatment in the media.

I’m really not following this world sometimes, it behaves inconsistently. The same headline would be a cause of mass riots if Israel was at fault, but would not even become a headline if its another country.

  15. Alon Levy says:

This btw raises a good issue – why do you never call for Britain to return Northern Ireland and Gibraltar?

First, I reserve the right to talk more about places I know more about. In related news, in the 1970s South African refugees talked more about apartheid than about the Khmer Rouge.

And second, Catholic residents of Northern Ireland are citizens with full legal rights in Britain. They don’t like being a religious minority, but they’re entitled to vote in British elections and get the same dole payments as East Enders. They’re not under any military rule, and the British government no longer engages in a policy of systematic impoverishment of its Irish possessions. There’s a reason I don’t bitch about Israel’s illegal annexation of East Jerusalem or about its discrimination against Arabs, but rather concentrate on the true injustice that is keeping three million people in subject rather than citizen status.

All killing is wrong, except perhaps in war. Everyone understands that in their heart -whether Muslim or Christian. Peace…

  19. mohammed says:

Mohammed didn’t receive his “revelations” from God.
Mohammed had an Abionite Christian Tutor (courtesy of his first wife) who taught him all the Abionite Christian beliefs about the other forms of Christianity. Mohammed clearly did NOT understand what he was taught and when his wife died, he began teaching his muddle up views to the •••s and Christians who knew that he didn’t fully understand it. When they mocked him he cursed them.

Let us look at this simple, clear, and precise FACT:
Mohammed’s “God” Allah served Mohammed . . . whenever somebody would mock Mohammed, Allah would miraculously give Mohammed a revelation to criticise them. If Mohammed’s views changed, so did Allahs. Want proof?

“There is no compulsion in religion.”

Surah 2:62 / 5:69 BOTH say that Christians will be accepted into heaven.

Ah, but wait . . . when Christians became the enemy in Mohammed’s eyes, that statement was “overrided” by Allah.

“If anyone desires a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him.” – Surah 3:85

  20. mohammed says:

Muslims just LOVE to cry out: “Mohammed brought equality! Islam teaches equality!”

    Hmm, that’s odd:

“Women shall have rights similar to the rights against them, according to what is equitable; but men have a degree over them.” – Surah 2:228

Sounds equal to anyone or it is just a translation error?

  21. mohammed says:

    More Muslim Equality:

“Mohammed said, ‘Bad omen is in the women, the house and the horse . . . after me I have not left any affliction more harmful to men than women.'” – 7.30

“To the male a portion of that equal to two females.” – Surah 4:11

“Get two witnesses out of your own men, and if there are not two men, then a man and two women such as you choose, for witnesses.” – Surah 2:282

No wonder Muslim men don’t want their women to be educated. The only way people will believe this shit is if they are kept away from everybody else, locked in their homes with other ignorant women and bred like dogs.

Only I speak the truth on Earth. All of you are unable to see me or understand me because you are not in love with truth. You are all genetically manipulated by your own criminal experiments. For thousands of years you murder all those who are evolved enough to know that there is no such thing as a god of any kind under any label. You and your ancestors support and commit the murder of more people than any creature that eats itself. The only ones you allowed to live and breed and rape were the violent, the ignorant, the gullible and the jealous egomanic killers and their prey. This is just like your invented gods do, so you justify yourself unjustly. ALL religion must go into the museums of human anthropology. ALL humans must realize the genetic programing of your interest in associated with masses of mentally ill people in a futile attempt to pretend that you are not sick. Just as WE created cows, horses, and many many dog breeds according to OUR will and manipulation, so to has the whole human race been ruined from its beautiful wild and natural state into this disease retarded creature that cannot use its full rational capacity. None of your religions have any value that out weights the truth of the ego crimes that they all are. Yes there is a spirit dimension to all living beings but it is not in a group it is only an individual experience. ALL are lairs and self deceivers because the truth is you came here clean and you were abused all of you by your deformed parents. God didn’t make you, that is your ego wishing something like an important god made you. You are ill. Those who know now have had a few hundreds years in a few corners of the world where we can say fk you god and the cow you rode in on. Let all men women and children life long enough to realize the truth of the hypnotism their sick and gullible parents performed on them. Fight the god gen in you. Fight the gullible ignorant gen in you, if you can. Religion is spiritual crime, period. Free my people.

  27. 1Greensix says:

The trouble with Islam is the same as the trouble with ANY religion: it’s purpose is to control the scared and superstitious.
There is absolutely no proof that any god exists. All the world has is the word of religious leaders out for their own profit. The three great religions are all based on three guys alone in the desert for forty day. Not thirty-seven, or twenty-nine, or forty-six, but forty. What a coincidence! Alone in the desert with no food. Try it yourself some day. It never happened. Not then, and not now. If God wanted to tell the world something, he’d buy a sixty second TV commercial during the Super Bowl, not tell George Bush, a former drug pusher, alcoholic and moron.

  28. J. D. Franse says:

The is absolutely true. That is what Mohammad told his disciples to do. He also promissed them that in heaven that they would have never ending virgin girls and boys. Also water that was available for dipping from quanats. In order to get them to follow him he had to promise them what they were missing in their lives. Islam in its golden Age, after the death of Mohammad and before the civil wars over the succession, was a good thing for the whole world. Islam as it is constituted now is an absloute disaster. The comming war, and there will be one, will probably see the extermination of Islam out side the US and possibly inside it also. It is too bad that Islam is now stuck in the fourteenth century.
